Clay Siegall co-founded Seattle Genetics in 1998, a company that develops clinical products for cancer patients. He runs the company as its President, Chairman of the Board, and the Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Siegall developed interests in cancer and its treatment at the age of 19 after the doctors diagnosed his father with brain cancer. He embarked on research in the world of medicine and decided to take a career in the biomedical industry. Dr. Siegall holds a Bachelors degree in Zoology from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in Genetics from George Washington University.
Clay Siegall worked with different companies and organization in cancer research and treatment. Before co-founding Seattle Genetics, he worked at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Research Institute between 1991 and 1997. Dr. Siegall also served at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health as a Biotechnology Fellow. He is on the Board Directors of Alder Pharmaceuticals, Ultragenyx Pharmaceuticals, and Mirna Therapeutics. Clay Siegall is also a Board Member in Scientific Counselors for the Cancer Treatment Research Foundation.
Seattle Genetics Products
Seattle Genetics is renowned for their antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) used in cancer therapies. Clay Siegall leads the company in research, scientific innovation, and development of different of antibody-based treatment. Their first ADC product is ADCETRIS, which acquired the FDA approval in 2011. The brand is now available in 60 different countries globally. The company is currently conducting over 70 trials on various types of lymphomas. According to an article in Business Journals, Seattle Genetics aims at expanding their drug pipeline to include 12 more drugs. Their 33A drug used in the treatment of myeloid leukemia is in its 3rd phase of clinical trials too. The company has also developed one drug for the treatment of breast cancer and two for bladder cancer.
Recognitions and awards
Dr. Siegall is an author of more than 70 scientific papers and holds more than fifteen patents to his name. In 2013, he earned recognition from the University of Maryland as the Alumnus of the Year for Computer, Math, and Natural Sciences. Clay Siegall was the recipient of the 2012 Pacific Northwest Earnest & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
